Mercenaries Saga 2

Mercenaries Saga 2 is an SRPG in straight-up Final Fantasy Tactics or Vandal Hearts style where you lead a small group of soldiers who star in an adventure full of intrigue and epic battles.

The story in Mercenaries Saga 2 sticks to the tropes of this genre in lockstep. In other words, first you see a segment of the play where a bunch of stuff happens involving your characters and then you take part in a massive battle.

The battles in Mercenaries Saga 2 happen in turns: first you move your troops and then the computer does. When it's your turn you act with all your characters, with some being more effective in melee combat and others in the rear guard.

Between battles you can upgrade all your characters, who evolve as you beat levels. You can swap out their equipment, weapons, and defenses for better ones, and this in turn improves their performance in battle.

Mercenaries Saga 2 is quite a good SRPG that should thrill fans of this genre. This version does include only the first six parts of the story, though.
